Abia Professor Nwogu Speaks On Port Harcourt Road Project, Urges APC To Field Strong Candidate In 2027

Political economist and academic, Professor Chinedu Nwogu, has offered insight into the Port Harcourt Road project in Aba, Abia...

Abia deserves an opposition that is clear, united, and accountable to the people. That is why recent developments around Mr. Eric Opah deserve honest conversation, not silence.

Mr. Opah is widely known as a vocal supporter of Governor Alex Otti and is reported to be a major contractor within the current administration. A video has now resurfaced showing him publicly endorsing the Governor for 2027. At the same time, Mr. Opah is reportedly presenting himself as a governorship aspirant under the APC platform in Abia State.

This creates a legitimate conflict of interest that Abia APC members, delegates, and the public have a right to question:

1. *Loyalty Test:* Can a person who publicly campaigns for the incumbent governor simultaneously claim to lead the party tasked with unseating that same government? How does that align with APC’s goals in Abia?
2. *Party Integrity:* If contractors and beneficiaries of the current administration are leading the opposition’s ticket, what message does that send to party members who have risked political capital to challenge the status quo?
3. *Transparency in Governance:* The current administration campaigned on transparency. Yet Abians still lack clear, itemized public reporting on how state funds are spent, including payments to contractors. A government that promises openness should not go silent when citizens ask: who got what, for what project, and at what cost?
4. *Strategic Risk:* At a time when APC needs to present a credible alternative to rescue Abia from mismanagement and political “shenanigans,” the party must guard against internal actors whose public alignment contradicts their private ambition.

This is not about personal attacks. It is about protecting the APC family and the people of Abia from confusion and political games. If we want to defeat incumbency, we must first ensure our candidates are unambiguously committed to that goal.

I call on the APC leadership in Abia and at the national level to:
– Demand clarity from all aspirants on their past and present political affiliations and business dealings with the state government.
– Set clear loyalty and conflict-of-interest standards for anyone seeking the party’s ticket.
– Insist on transparency from the state government on all contracts and public spending.

Abia people are tired of recycled politics and backroom deals. If APC wants to earn their trust in 2027, it must start by being clear about who stands where.
*MAY ABIA APC RISE AGAINST THIS ANTICS !!*

Signed,
Chief Don. Ugwumba A. Nmeregini
(A Concerned Abia APC Stakeholder)
