An Ohafia-born cleric, Bishop Silas Eke, has cautioned some political actors from Ohafia clan against pursuing selfish agendas that could jeopardise the political gains achieved by the Ohafia people in the 2023 general elections.

Bishop Eke, in a statement he personally signed, condemned the activities of some self-acclaimed political stakeholders agitating for the Abia North Senatorial District seat to be zoned to Ohafia Local Government Area.

“This is a calculated attempt to kick their brothers out of office. It is what their sponsors are trying to achieve without them understanding the politics behind what they are doing. Their target is His Excellency, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, and Hon. Chief Ibe Okwara Osonwa. These people are bitter that Ohafia, whom they had marginalised for too long, is holding these two positions.

“Therefore, those pushing for the Senate seat to be in Ohafia are as good as saying the clan should surrender the House of Representatives seat occupied by Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa and the Deputy Governorship seat held by Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu — both of whom are proud sons of Ohafia,” he said.

The cleric accused the proponents of the move of harbouring selfish motives.

“Let us be honest; they are not doing this for the good of the people. They are doing it out of selfishness to oust the Rep member and the Deputy Governor,” Bishop Eke warned.

He urged all stakeholders to place the collective interest of Ohafia above personal ambition, adding: “We must not allow personal political aspirations to ruin the unity and influence we secured in 2023. What we have achieved should be preserved and consolidated for the benefit of our people.”
