Stakeholders from Abia North Senatorial District, including community leaders, political figures, youth and women leaders, activists, and legal practitioners, have set up a high-powered committee to persuade former Governor, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, to recontest for the Senate seat in 2027.
In a communiqué issued after their meeting on Tuesday, the stakeholders unanimously declared that Senator Kalu remains “the best bet for Abia North”, citing his track record of performance, legislative achievements, and peaceful disposition.
The communiqué stated: “We are deeply satisfied with Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s outstanding representation. He has proven himself a unifying force and a development-oriented leader whose projects and interventions are felt across Abia North, Abia Central, and Abia South. He is not just a Senator for one zone, but for the entire state.
“Senator Kalu has consistently prioritised the welfare of his constituents, attracted infrastructure, facilitated youth and women empowerment, and maintained a style of politics that promotes peace and inclusivity. At a time when Abia needs stability and purposeful representation, he stands tall as the man to continue in the Senate beyond 2027.”
The stakeholders further emphasised that Kalu’s leadership has earned him trust across political divides.
“Unlike many, Senator Kalu has no clannish tendencies. His politics is one of inclusion, fairness, and balance. He has touched lives in Ohafia, Arochukwu, Umunneochi, Bende, and Isuikwuato, while extending development to other parts of the state. This is the kind of leader Abia must not lose at this critical period.”
The communiqué announced Chief Nnanna Ukaegbu, an eminent businessman and elder statesman, as Chairman of the committee, while Rev. Kalu Ukpai Ota will serve as Secretary. Other members include Prince Kalu Kalu, Prince Harry Ogu, Chief Ndukwo Agbai, Mrs Mary Kalu, Bishop Silas Eke, and Rev Chika Ubani.
The leaders called on all Abians, irrespective of party affiliation, to join in persuading Senator Kalu to run again in 2027.
“This call is not about party politics, but about quality leadership. Senator Kalu has given Abia North and Abia State at large a voice at the national stage. We shall embark on sensitisation across the wards and communities to ensure that our appeal reflects the collective will of the people,” the communiqué concluded.
