The press release issued by Abia State Government under one Ferdinand Ekeoma is a textbook example of political panic dressed up as bravado. Ordinarily, the media team of distinguished Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, would have ignored the rants of a sinking administration but it decided to teach Otti a lesson on party loyalty and not going to the presidency to negotiate 25% with APC. The incoherent piece christened “press release” does not require any reply because it is long on noise, short on facts, and dripping with fear of the inevitable collapse of Labour Party’s fragile hold on Abia State.

Without mincing words Senator Orji Uzor Kalu does not need validation, permission, or clearance from Governor Alex Otti to work for the APC or President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Abia State. That is his constitutional right and political obligation as a ranking APC leader, whether it unsettles the Abia Government House or not.

The attempt to portray Senator Kalu’s statement as a “threat” is laughable and embarrassingly childish. Only a government consumed by fear of the unknown, imagines threats where none exist. Senator Kalu merely reaffirmed loyalty to his party, which has always defined the former Governor’s political ideology and conviction.

The audacity with which this press release questions Senator Kalu’s electoral relevance is astonishing, coming from an administration that rode to power on a one-off protest vote and now struggles daily to explain its broken promises. Senator Kalu has won elections consistently for over two decades, something no Labour Party figure in Abia can claim without the obi wave which brought them due to the mood of the nation in 2023.

Dragging polling unit figures into the argument only exposes intellectual dishonesty. Elections are won and lost statewide, not by cherry-picking units to massage fragile egos. If Governor Otti is truly the political deity his aides portray him to be, why the obsession with Senator Kalu’s statements? Why the anxiety? Why the overreaction?

The claim that Governor Otti has delivered “enduring transformation” in less than three years is a gross exaggeration bordering on self-delusion. Road repainting, press conferences, and social media hype do not equal governance. Abians are still waiting for tangible economic revival, industrial rebirth, and inclusive governance, which are promises he hasn’t met despite the homogeneous resources made available by the APC federal government.

As for the laughable assertion that “Alex Otti is the best political party in Abia”, that line belongs in campaign fiction of inexperienced delusional minds. No individual is bigger than Abia State, and history has repeatedly humbled politicians who believed otherwise.

Finally, the needless attack on Senator Kalu’s family and political choices reeks of desperation and poor taste. Political contests are not won by insults, or recycled propaganda. APC continues to grow steadily in Abia while Labour Party fractures internally and Senator Orji Uzor Kalu remains one of the most formidable political forces Abia State has ever produced, whether his critics like it or not.

The Abia Government should focus less on issuing emotional press releases and more on governing. Politics is coming, and slogans will not save anyone.
